Left-hander Tyler Matzek was also placed on the Temporarily Inactive List. Tyler Matzek was pulled from the start just hours before the game. The Isotopes Media was told “He will work on his game outside of game competition.” by Isotopes Media Director Lee Van Horn which was followed up by comments from Walt Weiss.

“We’re taking him out of competition for a bit,” Rockies manager Walt Weiss told The Denver Post’s Patrick Saunders.

It is unknown at this time if he will return to Mission Viejo, California like he did in 2011 to work with his high school pitching coach. In 2011 he was able to work out his issues with erratic control, he had in A ball and made a good run at the Majors until this latest set back.

Carlos Hernandez was called up from AA New Britian but would only go 8 pitches before straining his something in his leg on a play at first. Glenallen Hill was unsure where the exact injury was after the game. While they watch the injury, the Topes have assigned Hernandez to Short Season Boise, which doesn’t actually start game until in June. Hernandez will remain with the Isotopes while they figure out the extent of his injury.

In the meanwhile, Matzek and Hernandez will be replaced by Right-handed pitchers Alec Crawford and Javier Palacios. Crawford has only pitched 24 innings in the minors, all at Grand Junction. Palacios has an ERA of 4.38 over 220 innings in the minors.
