2007 Rocktober Memories For Colorado Rockies Fans

Sometimes the cure for what ails you is a trip down memory lane.

Our Rockies winning percentage is currently .375, the worst in the league.  The only silver lining to that fact is our next opponent, the Philadelphia Phillies, sport the second worst winning percentage in the MLB at .378.  So when talking about small victories, climbing out of dead last in the MLB next week is quite feasible.

Many Rockies fans entered this season expecting two things:

  1. The pitchers to struggle.
  2. Troy Tulowitzki to struggle with health issues and deal with trade rumours.

What I don’t think many Rockies fans expected was just how badly our pitchers would struggle and how quickly issues and rumours would surround Tulo.

So I’m here to take your mind off of today’s struggles and take a look back at one of the most fascinating times in Rockies history – – Rocktober!

Rocktober unofficially started Sunday September 16th with a 13-0 win over the

Mia-

Florida Marlins.  That started an amazing run which included winning 14 of their 15 games to finish the season.

Rocktober officially started October 1st with the Wild Card game versus San Diego.  The game was won by our Rockies in the bottom of the 13th inning.  After outfielder Matt Holliday hit a big triple to tie the game at 8-8, the Padres intentionally walked Todd Helton to bring Jamey Carroll to bat. Not many folks talk about the at-bat being a sacrifice fly to win the game but about whether or not Holliday actually touched home plate.  In that spirit, I chose this fan video found on YouTube which focuses on the excitement of winning and not the details which some claim have cursed the franchise.

The Rockies would go into Philadelphia and take the first two games of the NLCS en route a sweep of the Phillies.

The Rockies would go into Arizona and take the first two games of the NLDS en route to another playoff sweep.

And I digress…
