The Colorado Rockies got rained out (snowed out?) Saturday night in Denver after a rain-shortened five-plus inning Friday night game. So with no Rockies tonight, here are some shout-outs from around the organization.
The Colorado Rockies thankfully (mercifully!) were rained out Saturday night in Denver, which means that’s at least one more game the club can’t lose… well, you know, for now. Makeup dates to be announced, and all. And Kershaw is still supposed to throw tomorrow.
So with the Rox and Los Angeles Dodgers hoping to get a game in Sunday afternoon for Mother’s Day – which, according to weather reports, is doubtful – we are left with a Saturday night off from baseball (well, at least Rockies baseball; you should see what happened in Phoenix between the Diamondbacks and Padres).
Anyways, here are some Saturday Shout-Outs to things/people/events/stats to which you should be paying attention:
Shout out to…
- Jameson Axford. I see you workin’, dude.
- Eddie Butler. He threw the Rockies’ first complete game of the year! So what if it was… just… 16 outs. It counts! Thanks for giving the bullpen a(nother) day off.
- Chad Bettis. The Isotopes lost (again), but Bettis threw well (again), and he might be the guy who gets the rotation spot once the Rockies need a fifth starter again, now that Tyler Matzek has been sent to AAA Albuquerque.
- Yohan Flande. After utterly dominating everybody in AA the entire month, dude tosses a one-hit complete game shut out Saturday afternoon in New Britain. OK, seriously. Give him a chance in Albuquerque.
- Konner Wade. The Modesto Nuts’ starting pitcher tossed an eight inning, two-hit, seven strikeout affair this week against the Bakersfield Blaze. Hey, Konner, only one walk?! You’re big league ready…
- Carlos Estevez. Plenty of Wade’s teammates in Modesto are doing well, but Estevez deserves special notice for earning four wins and three saves in ten relief appearances thus far this season, striking out 19 hitters in 14.2 innings, while allowing just nine hits and three walks.
- @Rockies. Best Twitter account in baseball.
- Jeff Francis. Former Colorado Rockie Francis is in Toronto with the Blue Jays now, representing his home country. He recently became part of the first ever all-Canadian battery in Blue Jays history (with catcher Russell Martin). This is Francis’ tenth year in the big leagues.
- Kyle Farnsworth. Remember him? He plays semipro football now, as just one of the guys. Good for him. I assume Paul Wilson and Jeremy Affeldt aren’t on his team.
- Your mother. Shout-out to your mother. CALL YOUR MOTHER.
