John Lannan has been the best pitcher – starter or reliever – on the Albuquerque Isotopes and Jair Jurrjens had started to look like his old Braves’ days, but that is all put on hold for now.

Right-hander Jair Jurrjens was placed on the disabled list with a right groin strain, and left-hander John Lannan was placed on the disabled list with a back muscle strain, retroactive to April 17. Jurrjens had thrown 5.2 innings of two run ball on six hits in his first start. He struck out four and walked three. He struck out one in his second start and left during the second batter with the injury.

Lannan has been fantastic for the Topes. Lannan had an excellent first start against the Reno Aces.

His second start of the season came against the Tacoma Rainiers. He tossed 7.0 innings of one-run ball scattering five hits and one walk, while striking out four. In his two starts with Albuquerque, Lannan has pitched 13.0 innings allowing nine hits, one run, four walks and nine strikeouts.

They will be replaced by Ryan Arrowood and Javier Palacios, joining the team from extended spring training.

This is Arrowood’s fourth season in the Rockies organization. He spent last year in Double-A Tulsa posting a 7-0 record with a 3.80 ERA in 40 Appearances. He has a minor league total of 17-5 with an ERA of 3.41 in his 95 appearances. He has thrown 224.1 innings, massing 200 Ks and 78 walks.

Javier Palacios is in his fifth season with Colorado. He was in Rookie-level Grand Junction last year, posting a 6-5 record with a 6.21 ERA. The 21 year old has posted a 17-13 record with 4.38 ERA in 220 innings over 67 games. He has 167 Ks and 44 walks.

This is a huge hit to the Isotopes starting five led by Jon Gray, who pitches tonight, Chad Bettis and Chris Rusin. Gray was sharp in all but the first inning of his last start. Bettis and Rusin have not fared well with a combined ERA over nine.

The rest of the starting rotation will shake out later this week. There should also be another move to add Scott Oberg back to the Isotopes after Jorge De La Rosa took his spot with the in the big leagues.
