Matt McBride is headed to the 15 day Disabled List retroactive to April 15th. He strained his right oblique during Monday night’s game against Tacoma. McBride has been struggling this season, hitting .175 with two doubles, a homer, two RBI and four walks in six games.
According to the Isotopes, he will be replaced on the roster by Infielder Jose Rivera. Rivera is in 7th season with the Rockies organization. He hit .250 with 7 doubles, 2 triples and 11 RBIs in 37 games at Tulsa last year. This is his first visit to AAA.
McBride was originally drafted by Cleveland Indians in 2nd round of the 2006 amateur draft. He was traded by the Cleveland Indians along with Drew Pomeranz, Joe Gardner and Alex White for Ubaldo Jimenez. McBride played 31 games with Colorado following the trade batting .205 with 2 Homers, 2 doubles and 11 RBIs in 81 plate appearances. He did not play at the big league level in 2013, requested and was granted Free Agency on November 5th, 2013. He resigned with the Rockies on November 16th, 2013. He played 21 games with the Rockies in 2014, hitting .226 with 2 doubles and 2 home runs again but just in 34 plate appearances. He plated 6 RBIs and scored 6 runs on 7 hits. He opened the 2015 season with the Albuquerque Isotopes while trying to earn a spot on the big league roster. He will be set to return when the Isotopes return from an 8 game road trip on April 30th against the Salt Lake Bees (LAA Angels).
