Amazing how much a sports fans perspective can change in 3 days.  At the beginning of the season when I predicted our Rockies winning their opening road series, it was a quasi-bold prediction (especially given their recent road struggles).  With our boys coming home undefeated and playing the “loveable loser” Cubbies, expectations are mile high.  I feel the need to not necessarily pee in people’s Corn Flakes but warn folks of yellow milk.

When I think of reasons the Chicago Cubs will improve, the first two names that come to mind are starting pitcher Jon Lester and (mark my words) soon-to-be rookie of the year Kris Bryant.  Neither of those players will appear at Coors Field this weekend.  Honestly, neither of them have to show up for the Cubs to spoil our party because of one man – – their manager Joe Maddon.

It is NO coincidence the last time we saw Joe Maddon was also the last time we saw our very own rookie-of-the-year candidate Jon Gray.  Heading into that March 28th game, Jon Graywill they or won’t they” headlines were all the rage with fans wondering aloud if the Rockies would put Gray into their season opening rotation.  Cubs manager Joe Maddon got into the youngster Gray’s head by forcing him to field bunts and Mr. Gray was out of the game (and out of the opening day rotation) before the end of the first inning.
