The Colorado Rockies have just about everybody clicking, every key player dialed in. The exception, unfortunately, has been Wilin Rosario.

Early struggles gave way to a sore hand, and now Rosario is out with an illness the day after Josh Rutledge was sent to the 15 day disabled list with a viral infection. To take some of the pressure off back-up catcher Jordan Pacheco, the Rockies have called up Michael McKenry and sent Chad Bettis back down to Colorado Springs.

Per Thomas Harding of MLB.com:

"Needing a second catcher, the Rockies called up Michael McKenry from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Rosario remained on the active roster, with the Rockies optioning right-handed reliever Chad BettisBut depending on the severity of his illness, Rosario could be a candidate to be placed on the DL on Sunday to make room for right-hander Jhoulys Chacin, who is expected to make his season debut. Chacin strained his right shoulder at the start of Spring Training.”"

If Rosario heads to the DL, it would be yet another injury to a key player in the first two months of the season. That only magnifies how impressive Colorado’s winning ways have been as of late.

McKenry almost perfectly fits the mold of a guy to have around as catching depth. He is a veteran who is sound enough defensively and works with pitchers well. With the Rockies in the midst of a long stretch with no days off, he will likely be called upon right away.
