Full commitment to platoons

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

The Rockies are likely to continue their fascination with lineup stability in 2014. As such, they will try as hard as they possibly can to give certain guys the chance to “take over” a spot, or earn an everyday role.

That likely means too much Drew Stubbs and too much Justin Morneau. Rather than sit and wait for those guys to struggle against same-handed pitching to then platoon, they should commit to that system from day one. Corey Dickerson should be in the lineup often and Michael Cuddyer should be playing first base against left-handed pitchers. To maximize the potential of what can be a potent lineup, Walt Weiss should be proactive in his use of platoons in center field and at first base.
