After a horror homestand which finished with a 1-8 record, the Rockies, who have lost 16 out of their last 20 games, head west to try and turn their luck around. Drew Pomeranz heads to the mound tonight (1-6, 5.13 ERA) versus the Los Angeles Dodgers Chris Capuano (10-7, 3.33 ERA). Pomeranz did not factor in his last outing, earning a no decision in a 9-6 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Pomeranz has struggled to go deep into games, only gaving reached the 5th inning once in his last 4 starts, with his lone win coming on July 6 versus the Washington Nationals. In his only start against the Dodgers (59-50) earlier this season, Pomeranz went 6 2/3 innings only allowing 4 hits and 1 run but did not get the decision in a 8-5 Rockies victory.
The Rockies (38-68) will hold some hope to do some damage against Capuano. In his last 5 starts he is 1-4 with a 5.90 ERA and versus the Rockies he is 1-1 including giving up 7 earned runs in a 13-3 Rockies win on June 1.
The Rockies will also hope to get through this series with no further injuries. The club has been hit hard by the injury bug with 1B Todd Helton placed on the 15 day disabled list today to undergo season-ending hip surgery on Friday.
