Rockies Lineup – July 24, 2012: Cabrera Tries Again

facebooktwitterreddit

When you’ve got a pitcher who was as bad in his debut as Edwar Cabrera was back in June (2 1/3 IP, 5 ER, 3 HR), and it was clear at the time that he was rushed to the bigs, and there’s no indication that he’s ready to come back, AND you’re still working with a 4-man rotation: the situation is dismal. That is all.

Cabrera replaces Jason Giambi on the roster, who is apparently fighting a stomach bug bad enough that it will require some DL time. As others have noted, 15 days exceeds the July 31st trade deadline, which means Giambi will not be moved. At this point I’m ambivalent about him remaining with the Rockies; he’s a valuable veteran presence who occasionally contributes something really special at the plate, but with or without him we’re not even close to contending, so I say cut bait with whomever we can (except Todd Helton, and why does everyone outside of Colorado think that’s even a possibility?). It’s too bad Giambi won’t be among those simply because of who we might have gotten for him.

Josh Rutledge hitting 7th. Again. Despite the fact that he scored 2 of the Rockies’ 3 runs last night, and no Tyler Colvin. And, no Jordan Pacheco for the second day in a row.

Also, D-backs designated Ryan Roberts for assignment? He’s not that bad. Certainly not against the Rockies. Arizona’s loss.
