Rockies Lineup – July 21, 2012: In Francis We Trust

facebooktwitterreddit

I have made no secret of my love for Jeff Francis, but I’m starting to feel that it’s justified, because he has been far and away the most consistent starting pitcher in recent weeks. He only lasted 3 1/3 innings in his first start for the Rockies, but since then he’s gone at least 5 every time, even with this ridiculous pitch count. He’s had a scoreless outing and two where he only gave up 1 run. He’s not issuing many walks, which already sets him above the rest. I like his chances for a good start tonight. Now, the question is, can the Rockies’ offense do anything against Kip Wells, who stymied them the last time they faced him? Not so sure on the chances of that.

Wilin Rosario sprained his ankle in last night’s game, and while he’s not on the DL yet, he’s also not in the starting lineup. Ramon Hernandez will handle catching duties. And fortunately a place has been found for Tyler Colvin, who returns to the 5-hole. Not too many shakeups worth noting in the Padres’ lineup, though Chris Denorfia will bat lead-off as Alexi Amarista remains on the bench.
