Game two of a three game home opening series against the Giants sees Jeremy Guthrie square off against Tim Lincecum. This will be Guthrie’s first career game at Coors Field and his second career start against the Giants. In June of 2010 Guthrie and the Orioles lost to Lincecum and the Giants by a score of 6-3 with Guthrie giving up 4 runs including two home runs, Aubrey Huff had a big day going 3-4 with a home run and 2 RBI.

This will be the second start of the season for Lincecum after pitching 5 1/3 innings against the Diamondbacks, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits including 2 first inning home runs in the Giants season opener. Lincecum comes into the game with a career 8-6 record with a 3.27 ERA spanning 17 starts against the Rockies, including a 4-3 record with a 3.61 ERA over 10 starts at Coors Field.

Todd Helton comes into the game with the most success against Lincecum as he brings a .364 (12-33) career average, Carlos Gonzalez has hit 2 home runs with a .259 (7-27) average. Overall the Rockies have struggled in 2012 entering the game with a .180/.225/.308 slash line over their first 4 games. Chris Nelson will draw his fourth start of the season and will try to get on base for the first time this season.

The Rockies line-up is the same as Monday, this seems to be Jim Tracy’s ‘A’ line-up:

Marco Scutaro 2B
Dexter Fowler CF
Carlos Gonzalez LF
Troy Tulowitzki SS
Todd Helton 1B
Michael Cuddyer RF
Ramon Hernandez C
Chris Nelson 3B
Jeremy Guthrie P

Melky Cabrera is the only Giant to have seen Guthrie more than 6 times and holds a .355 (11-31) average against him in his career, while Aubrey Huff has gone 4-6 with one home run. Pablo Sandoval continued his hot hitting on Monday and is now batting .375 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI to open the season. We should also get our first look of 2012 at Buster Posey after he was given Monday off, Posey has hit .360 (18-50) in his career at Coors Field. Update: Posey has shingles and was a late scratch (get it?), he will be replaced by Hector Sanchez.
