Update on Juan Nicasio

Rockies pitcher Juan Nicasio suffered a season-ending neck injury last night at Coors Field when he was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of the Nationals’ Ian Desmond.
Nicasio immediately fell to the ground after the ball ricocheted off his skull and into foul ground near the Rockies’ dugout. Head trainer Keith Dugger sprinted from the dugout before the play was even over, and immediately called for the cart and stretcher.
Word this morning came down that Nicasio was resting comfortably at Denver Health, and had surgery early this morning on his fractured C-1 vertebrae.
I was there last night, and saw the entire thing, and let me tell you, there is NOTHING scarier in sports than seeing a massive injury like this. It’s something that sticks with you for a long time, and we here at RoxPile extend our thoughts and prayers for Nicasio, his family, and the Rockies organization. With this season pretty much over, wins and losses don’t matter anymore – the health of one of their own is all that they’re focusing on.
Keith Dugger has scheduled a press conference at 3:30pm Mountain time from Denver Health to update us on Nicasio’s condition. Watch RoxPile for developments as they happen.
