Sunday’s First Pitch

Leading Off

The Rockies have been able to win two so far in the current series against the Nationals and are looking to clench a sweep today before the All-Star Break. Troy Tulowitzki made his first appearance last night since leaving the game Monday due to tightness in hi quad.

The Good

The Rockies were beginning to look like the team we have come to know. Pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez pitched a perfect game through 5.1 innings until Michael Morse hit a single to left. Jimenez went on to pitch eight innings, allowed only one run, five hits and had nine strikeouts.

The Bad

The Rockies gained a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning when the Nationals scored one in the sixth. The Nationals had one more hit than the Rockies, but if the Rockies would have allowed them to score, the Rockies might have been in trouble because they only had one more hit after the fifth.

The Ugly

During the final inning, Huston Street gave many fans a panic. With one out and one on, Morse singled to left-center field, moving Ryan Zimmerman to third. With runners on both the corners, Jayson Werth stepped up to the plate. He went 0-3 with two strikeouts at his previous at-bats, but her has ten home runs on the season with 31 RBI’s. Luckily, he grounded to shortstop, and with a 6-4-3 play, got the final two outs of the game. The Rockies clenched the win, Jimenez got the win, and Street got his 26 save.
