Thursday’s First Pitch

Leading Off
The Rockies let a quality win (and sweep) get away thanks to one key play.

Thank you, Jason Hammel.

The Good
Ty Wigginton hit two home runs and brought in all three of the Rockies’ three runs Wednesday night. Wigginton has shown vastly improved offense over the past few weeks, and may be the answer and third if the Rockies can’t find a defensive upgrade.

Seth Smith also won the battle against Chris Perez in the ninth inning with a two-out double to put the Rockies’ tying run in scoring position. Ty Wigginton struck out, but the Rockies continued to prove they can hit with two outs in the late innings.

The Bad
Jason Hammel gave up four runs on five hits and saw his ERA rise to 4.13. The Rockies lost to the Indians, and fell back to .500 on the season.

The Ugly
On one play, with runners on second and third, Jason Hammel wound up ready to pitch. Halfway through his throwing motion, he just stopped. It was called a balk, and the Indians fourth and winning run came across home plate to score.

Thanks to Hammel, who has been nothing short of a warrior on the road and in Interleague play, the Rockies dropped a game they should have won.

Game MVP
Ty Wigginton: 2-4, 2 Runs, 3 RBIs, 2 Home Runs (.266 average)

On Deck
Today’s an off day, so not much activity on the blog today. Look for your Minor League report to (finally) come out today as I’ll finally have time to finish it.
