Today’s Matchup – May 16, 2011

The Rockies held another closed-door team meeting this afternoon, the second one called in a week. This could just be a routine meeting before the first game of a series, but with the recent struggles, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this had something to do with the Padres series.

Look for the bullpen to be changed up a bit before the next road trip. Matt Daley and Rex Brothers have been tearing hitters apart in Triple-A Colorado Springs, and with the struggles of Felipe Paulino and Franklin Morales of late, one if not both could see action in the Majors soon.

Tonight, the Rockies face Tim Lincecum. Last time Timmy visited Coors Field, Lincecum went 7.2 innings, giving up just 3 hits (the first didn’t come until the seventh inning), one run, three walks, and 10 strikeouts. He had a WHIP of 0.78 and an ERA of 1.17.

Manager Jim Tracy is sitting Chris Iannetta tonight, despite his success against Lincecum. He wants Iannetta to remain as fresh as he can to help Ubaldo out of his slump when he takes the mound tomorrow.

Game No. 39: Tim Lincecum (3-3, 2.11 ERA) vs. Clayton Mortenson (0-0, 0.55 ERA)
