24 Games Left…Where Do the Rockies Stand?
Sorry for the lack of recent posts. I’ve been traveling and have been unable to follow the games for the last week or so.
The Padres picked a great time to go on a 10 game losing streak. The Rockies are currently 4.5 games back in the Wild Card race, but the Padres’ collapse has pulled the Rox into the divisional race at 4.5 games back. The Rockies have a great opportunity, facing the Padres and Giants one more time each. Both 3 game series are at Coors Field, which greatly helps the Rox as they try to scratch their way into the playoffs.
The Rox only have 3 road series remaining. They travel to LA, Arizona, and St. Louis to end the season. The Dodgers and Cardinals are both scuffling lately, and could be out of the race by the time these series take place, and the Diamondbacks are playing for the future.
The schedule is about as favorable as it could be going down the stretch. According to coolstandings.com, the Rox have a 4.5% chance of winning the division, and a 4.1% chance of winning the Wild Card. However, I believe that the Rox have a greater chance of making the playoffs due to the favorable schedule and the fact that the road series all come against potentially struggling teams. The Rox face an uphill battle, but I give them about a 20% chance of being able to sneak into the playoffs. The season ending series in St. Louis will most likely determine the Rockies’ fate.
Hang on Rockies fans, this could be a wild ride to the end of the season.
