Great win last night. This is the type of win that playoff caliber teams seem to be able to pull out. It was encouraging to see CarGo come up big after Jason Hammel and Rafael Betancourt combined to give away the lead in the 8th. Hammel pitched well enough to win, throwing 7 strong innings before giving up two singles which is a great sign for this team’s playoff chances.
Name
Carlos Gonzalez – After the night he had, could anyone else be mentioned in this feature? Going 4-4 and completing the cycle on a walkoff homer qualifies as an outstanding night. Is there any hitter in baseball hotter than CarGo right now? In his last 6 games, Carlos has 4 homers, is hitting .577, and has an OPS of 1.779. Those are video game numbers.
Number
3 – The Rox are currently riding a 3 game winning streak. The last time the Rockies won 3 in a row was July 8-10. Momentum is only as good as tomorrow’s starting pitcher, and De La Rosa has been good at home. Hopefully the Rox should be able to close out the Cubs Scrubs on Sunday and complete the sweep.
Noteworthy
Boom goes the dynamite – The Rockies have scored 32 runs in the last 3 games. Over the previous 8 games, the Rox only scored 17 runs and went 0-8. Offense sure helps win baseball games. This is the type of in-depth analysis RoxPile fans have come to love!
Stay tuned for my trade deadline grades for all the NL West teams, which should be up later today.
