It’s nice to have Tulo back, but tough to lose Huston Street. Let’s hope for a speedy recovery for the Rox closer after a scary incident shagging flies.
Name
Jorge De La Rosa – You would think that De La Rosa would earn the win after throwing 7 strong innings and only allowing 2 earned runs. However, Zach Duke and the Pirate ‘pen stifled the Rox offense aside from two solo homers. De La Rosa K’d 8 Pirates while only walking two. De La Rosa was unlucky, as the Pirates scored a run after Tulo booted a grounder from Jose Tabata, and the Rox offense could only come up with 2 runs.
Number
4 – The Rox stranded 4 runners in scoring position. This, combined with Ryan Spilborghs getting thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple, really hurt the Rox chances. The Spilborghs gaffe is tough to excuse, since there were no outs. Spilborghs runs well enough to score on a single from second, and shouldn’t have taken this risk in a close game with no outs. Also, the Rox needed to find a couple timely hits to win last night and couldn’t.
Noteworthy
In his return to the Rockies lineup, Troy Tulowitzki went 0-4 with a punchout, and committed an error in the field. Let’s see if Tulo can return to form over the next couple of games.
