The Morning After – Rockies 1 Reds 0

The Rox managed to salvage one game against Cincinnati before heading down to Miami to take on the Marlins.

Name

Aaron Cook – Seven scoreless innings gave the bullpen a break after yesterday’s short outing from De La Rosa.  Cook scattered 6 hits and issued 1 intentional walk, and stranded 8 Reds including 3 baserunners who ended the inning standing on third.

Number

3 – Huston Street came into the 9th in a save situation and made things interesting by allowing two weak singles to put runners on the corners with one out.  Street then punched out Chris Heisey and Brandon Phillips to up his strikeout total to 3 for the inning.  With Drew Stubbs on third and one out, a fly ball would have tied the game.  Street recorded K’s when he needed them most.

Noteworthy

Johnny Web Gems – Johnny Herrera made two great diving stops on the wrong side of second base to rob the Reds of two base hits.  Herrera currently has a .348 OBP, and has provided consistent hitting and speed in the second spot in the lineup.  It is tough to overstate how important Herrera’s emergence has been in Tulo’s absence.  It will be interesting to see how his role changes when Tulowitzki returns.
