The Morning After – Reds 8 Rockies 1
By Editorial Staff
Name
Edinson Volquez – After a shaky first inning, Volquez was on cruise control, allowing only three baserunners over the following five innings. He struck out 9 Rockies over 6 innings and picked up his first win in over a year.
Number
5 – Rockies pitchers gave up 8 runs on only 5 hits. Four of the hits were home runs, with two of them coming as solo shots. Against a team like the Reds, it is so important not to allow cheap baserunners. The Rox couldn’t avoid this and gave up 3 additional runs via walks and an error on the Reds other two homers.
Noteworthy
Dex Hustle – A day after Dexter Fowler robbed a three run homer, he legged out a first inning double on what appeared to be a routine single. He later scored on a Carlos Gonzalez single to give the Rox a brief early lead. Let’s hope some of this aggressive play comes in games where it can make the difference between a win and a loss.
