Don't laugh. If Tulo struggles, Carney will make him hit just like this.

I’m starting out today over at Fangraphs, where Chris Cwik takes the Rox to task for drafting poorly over the last decade. I think this article is a little short-sighted. Chris failed to acknowledge the team’s success in 2007 and 2009. Furthermore, he barely mentions the Rox Latin America efforts, which have been outstanding as of late.

According to Cwik, Colorado has only developed one superstar in the last decade, Troy Tulowitzki. He forgot about Matt Holliday. Not only was Holliday a homegrown MVP candidate, the Rox were able to trade him for another one. There is also this guy named Ubaldo. Last time I checked, he came up through the Rockies’ system.

Unfortunately for the Rockies, recent history is not on their side. It’s more than likely this new batch of prospects will follow in the footsteps of the old batch of prospects. They may establish themselves as useful players, but far from ideal options. Without the depth of those former Rockie teams, there will be no safety net this season if any of their home-grown talents falter. In a suddenly crowded NL West, that risk could cost the Rockies a shot at another Rocktober.

I hope this “new batch” of prospects will follow in the footsteps of the “old batch”. That means we have another World Series appearance on the horizon.
