Rockies and Marlins are Brothers Separated at Expansion
Yesterday, the Rockies left South Florida. Thank God. I loathe watching Marlins’ home games. It’s like watching high school baseball. Attendance for yesterday’s contest was 11,442. That’s roughly 30% capacity at whatever the hell they call that stadium. I’ve never been there, but, by all accounts, the place is a dump. Still, the poor amenities are no excuse. Marlins’ faithful ought to be ashamed of themselves. Florida is a young, talented club on the rise. Staff ace, Josh Johnson, is arguably the best pitcher in baseball. Hanley Ramirez is the best shortstop outside of Denver and outfielder Logan Morrison is [...]
Kyle Parker — Rockies’ Prospect Spotlight
Kyle Parker is one of the finest athletes ever drafted by the Rockies. Last year at the Clemson University, Parker became the first person to hit 20 homeruns and throw 20 touchdown passes in the same academic school year. According to his head football coach at Clemson, Parker has the ability to play both football and baseball professionally. Fortunately for the Rockies, Kyle has chosen baseball as his future. The Rockies took a risk when they selected Parker in the first round of the 2010 Draft. Despite just finishing his junior season in baseball, Kyle had three years of football [...]
2011 Hall of Fame Elections: Surhoff? Seriously?
As expected, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America butchered this year’s Hall of Fame vote. Deserving candidates Bert Blyleven and Roberto Alomar were finally elected, but otherwise the BBWAA vote was a travesty. The BBWAA has turned the Hall into an honor only attained by elite players with squeaky clean reputations. Greatness is no longer enough for Cooperstown.
Rockies Replays Inspire Nostalgia
As they do every season FSN Rocky Mountain, home of the Colorado Rockies, is playing replays of classic Rockies games. On Monday night the station played two classic games back-to-back. Leading off the two games was the first-ever Major League Baseball game in Colorado. Any true Rockies fan knows the most important moment of that game, which was a leadoff home run off the bat of Eric Young. The game very much set the tone for early Rockies. They scored 11 runs in that game and blasted their way to a win. The game immediately following the opener was the [...]
