Series Preview: Cubs @ Rockies (4/15 – 4/17)

AUTHOR: | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Okay Rockies’ fans, the Cubs are in town.  Our Rox are off to the best start in franchise history.  They have the best record in baseball.  They just went 7-1 on the season’s first road trip. They swept four games from the Mets in New York.  Troy Tulowitzki has been playing like Superman since last September.  It is probably the most exciting April home stand in franchise history.  So can we please make sure that Rockies fans outnumber Cubs fans this weekend? Also, if you have the privilege of attending one of this weekend’s games, please be a little hard [...]

Morning Dump — Wednesday, April 13th

AUTHOR: | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

I apologize for my absence yesterday. I came down with a stomach bug. I tried to wake up and get some writing done, but I just laid in bed and unleashed some very dramatic groans instead. It was not a very manly display. My wife was unimpressed, but she’s used to it. Anyway, let’s call it a rain out — just like last night’s game. After Monday night’s win, the Rockies are 4-1 with three games left on the current road trip. No matter what happens over the next two days, the Rox will return home with at least a [...]

Series Preview: Rockies @ Mets (4/11 – 4/14)

AUTHOR: | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The Rox are in the Big Apple tonight for a big four game series with the Mets.  Currently, the Rockies are in the middle of an eight game road trip, having taken three of four in Pittsburgh.  Last year’s road woes are well documented, but it’s worth noting that the team didn’t win a road trip until August.  If they can split with the Mets, they will win the first one of 2011.  In other words, coming out of New York with at least two wins would be a very, very big deal.  Below is a complete preview of this [...]

Monday Morning Shortstop: Rockies On A Roll

AUTHOR: | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

One full week in, the Rockies are rolling, posting six victories in eight games. And the two games they lost, they squandered some chances, meaning their six and two record could have been even better. Plenty to be happy about in Rockies country, with the Rox coming out of the gates playing solid baseball, both offensively and defensively. Rockies teams from the past have failed to meet expectations because they have struggled against NL West opponents, and underperformed on the road. Well, Colorado has made large strides trying to buck both those trends, and the proof is in the purple [...]

Sunday Morning Dump — Wiggy, Wiggy, What?!

AUTHOR: | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The guy that was drafted ahead of Tim Lincecum, Evan Longoria, and Clayton Kershaw came up big for the Rox last night. Coming off a tough loss and dealing with a depleted bullpen, Colorado desperately needed a solid performance out of Greg Reynolds. The 2006 top draft pick delivered, giving the team six tough innings and only surrendering two runs. Greg’s efforts last night earned him some respect from his peers. Even if he struggled early, Jim Tracy was going to stick with Reynolds. He had no choice. Anything less than five innings would have been a disastrous result for [...]

Morning Dump — Esmil Rogers for Cy Young Edition

AUTHOR: | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

We are just five games into the season, but it’s hard not to get over excited about the Rockies. Yesterday, after their fifth starter totally dominated the Bucs, I found myself wondering if they could win 100 this year. After all, they appear to have no weakness. They hit well, pitch well, and play better defense than anyone else in baseball. However, I had to force myself to come back to reality. A lot has to happen before a team can win 100. I think I’ll put that question on the shelf until at least May. Coming into yesterday’s start, [...]

Series Preview — Rockies @ Pirates (4/7 – 4/10)

AUTHOR: | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Pittsburgh Pirates are off to a hot start.  They went on the road to begin the season and roughed up the Cubs and the Cardinals.  The Rockies will have to deal with the emotion of today’s game being Pittsburgh’s home opener.  Also, there is the Clint Hurdle element.  Yes, the Rockies former manager now manages the hapless Pirates.  He has the Bucs playing good baseball right now.  The Rox need to take care of business in their first road series of the season.  Right now, Pittsburgh is not a team to take lightly. Colorado Rockies 3-1, 1st in NL [...]

Morning Dump — Tuesday, April 5th

AUTHOR: | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sunday’s snow out royally sucked. These last two days have felt like an eternity. Giving us two games and then taking two days off was like giving a peanut to a starving man. However, at 6:40 tonight, we can all eat again. Bring on the Dodgers! Carlos Gonzalez has a ridiculous set of tools, but can he be a 40-40 guy? Absolutely, but he’ll have to stay healthy and catch some breaks. For CarGo, the most difficult aspect may be getting to 40 homeruns. It’s not a lack of power — he hits the ball harder than anyone else on [...]

Monday Morning Shortsop: Opening Weekend First Impressions

AUTHOR: | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jose Lopez looks to be a solid acquisition, hitting a homerun in his first appearance as a Rockie. In fact, he’s the only Rockie who has gone yard, which is encouraging production from a second basemen, a position the Rockies have not received good power numbers from historically. (Remember Roberto Mejia?)
