Five to Count On?

AUTHOR: | IN: Popular, Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The New Year is upon us and the baseball world is asleep. The Rockies are no exception. After a flurry of December and November activity, the Rox appear content with their 2011 squad. Dan O’Dowd and company are avoiding the urge to throw money at overpriced free agents and sticking with the plan to produce major league talent from within. The team pillars, Troy Tulowitzki and Ubaldo Jiminez, are both homegrown talents. Carlos Gonzalez was acquired in return for another player that came up through the Rockies farm system, Matt Holliday. The Rox shrewdly acquired a few pieces through free [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: Popular, Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Yes, the times will be tougher without Tulo in the lineup. Some may think that big question Rockies fans face is  who will take over the spot at SS or 2B depending on how the lineup is shifted. However, I believe that the bigger question is who in the lineup will pull up their socks and make a leap forward to take up some of the slack that will be felt from his loss. Spilborghs was slated to be the Rockies centerfielder heading into the 2009 campaign until the team made the decision to have prized prospect Dexter Fowler make the jump from Double-A to the big leagues.  On top of losing his starting job, Spilborghs struggled through a [...]

Should the Rockies go after Orlando Hudson?

AUTHOR: | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The Rockies offseason has been incredibly quiet.  Besides the signing of Miguel Olivo and the departure of Yorvit Torrealba, little will be different for the 2010 Rockies.  While the Rockies were the best team in the National League after Jim Tracy took over on May 29th, some fans believe that the team should not rest on its laurels and should go after some free agents. One area for improvement could be on the offensive side at second base.  No one argues that incumbent Clint Barmes is a great defender.  With him and Troy Tulowitzki up the middle it doesn’t get [...]
