While I was in Arizona this week, I had the chance to chat with Chad Bettis of the Colorado Rockies after his first spring training action since being diagnosed with testicular cancer in the offseason.

"“It felt good. It’s exciting and fun to get back out there,” Bettis said after his start against the Milwaukee Brewers, where he struck out two batters in two innings, including the very first batter he faced. “It was a huge step. I’m taking it a day at time still. It was a lot of fun today. I had a great time. We’ll see what tomorrow is in store.”"

You never know what tomorrow has in store. We learned that lesson yet again on Friday morning when Bettis tweeted out that he would be undergoing chemotherapy in the very near future.

Without being proactive, we wouldn’t have caught this.“I am committed to beating this cancer. My family and I are grateful for the support of the Major League Baseball Players Association, the Rockies organization and the fans.”"

Certainly our thoughts and prayers are with Bettis and his family during this time.

The 27-year-old right-hander talked to Rox Pile during the offseason’s Rockies Caravan about the discovery of his cancer and how it had affected him. You can read that interview by clicking here.
