Colorado Rockies Injury Update: Trevor Story is Progressing

After having his record-setting rookie season cut short by injury, Trevor Story is working hard to make sure he returns to the Colorado Rockies stronger than ever in 2017.

When Story went down with torn ligaments in his left thumb on July 30 that required season-ending surgery, he was part of a second-half surge that had the Rockies at 52-52 and in the discussion for a Wild Card spot. His injury, along with injuries to Mark Reynolds and Carlos Gonzalez, proved too much for the Rockies to overcome in their quest for the postseason.

Colorado’s shortstop, who will turn 24 on November 15, established a new National League record for homers with 27 … and that came in just 97 games. He also had 72 RBI and 101 hits overall, including 21 doubles.

But that’s all in the past for Story and the Rockies. His focus now is on 2017 and he’s hard at work preparing for the season ahead as you can see from a tweet recently posted by teammate Tony Wolters.

“It’s cool to look back at what I accomplished, but I don’t really get too caught up in all that,” Story recently said in an interview. “My rookie year was really special. I got to learn a lot of things and kind of just see what it’s like in the big leagues. I feel really confident about that and this team. It’s special to be a Rockie right now. I feel very excited about next year.”

One prediction already has Story playing in more games next season … but not having the same kind of power he did in 2016. In this Crystal Ball feature on MinorLeagueBall.com, Story is predicted to have not only a dip in homers, but also batting average as well.

While a repeat of the homer power we saw in 2016 may be hard to repeat for Story (after all, his previous season high was 20 in 2015), the Rockies need his consistency back on the field in order to make a run at the 2017 postseason.
