The Colorado Rockies opened a four-game road series against the New York Mets on Thursday afternoon with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory, snapping a 10-game losing streak in Queens.

Coming just hours after the Rockies recorded a 3-1 win in Baltimore, the Rockies moved up the East Coast to Queens to start an important series with a strangely scheduled day game. Between the late arrival and some traffic snarls heading to Citi Field before the game, the Rockies looked to be feeling the travel effects as the offense struggled early to put anything together.

The win came with two runs in the ninth inning, erasing a 1-0 deficit and giving the Rockies their first victory of the season in 42 tries when they trailed heading into the final frame.

What stood out in the win, which marked Colorado’s third straight victory and seventh in their last eight games? Here are four things…

Oh that final frame…

Trailing 1-0, Trevor Story opened the ninth with a single off New York closer Jeurys Familia up the middle on a 3-2 count then stole second. It marked just the second time all day that a Rockies runner had reached second.

More from Rox Pile

David Dahl continued his fantastic start to his Major League Baseball career with a walk to give the Rockies runners at first and second. Daniel Descalso then laid down a bunt that was meant to be a sacrifice but stayed fair, allowing Descalso to reach and loading the bases with no outs.

Familia struck out Tony Wolters to tag the Rockies with their first out. But then Lady Luck smiled once again on the Rockies.

In the same inning where Descalso’s bunt stayed fair, pinch hitter Cristhian Adames put the first pitch he saw from Familia into play, sending a grounder between first and second base. Mets first baseman James Loney tried to field the ball but was unable to grab it cleanly, allowing Story to score and tie the game at 1-1 while keeping the bases loaded.

Familia then imploded from there, spiking a 1-1 pitch to Charlie Blackmon into the dirt in front of home plate which escaped to the backstop, allowing Dahl to score the go-ahead run for the Rockies.

Blackmon was then intentionally walked by Familia, marking the last batter he faced. It would signal the end of the day for the struggling Mets closer and the Rockies offense.

With a surge of momentum behind him, Colorado closer Carlos Estevez came in and pitched a perfect ninth to secure the win and earn his 11th save of the season.

Anderson continues to impress

Tyler Anderson notched his sixth consecutive start with six or more innings, scattering seven hits over six innings and allowing the lone run. It lowered his ERA to 3.33 on the season and marked his sixth quality start in nine outings.

However, Anderson once again missed out on the road win. In his three road starts this season, the Rockies have scored just one run while he’s been in the game.

Oh my Oberg

During a critical point in the game, Scott Oberg showed he has not only gained the confidence of Walt Weiss, but also has much more confidence in himself.

After Jake McGee opened the seventh by giving up a single, double, and intenational walk to load the bases, Oberg was called into the game and gave a magnificent performance, retiring the next three batters on a groundout, strikeout and flyout to squash the threat.
