Why lie? The Colorado Rockies struggled pretty badly this week on the road in New York City, so Saturday shout-outs might be few and far between.

There aren’t too many shoutouts to hand out to Colorado Rockies players this week after that disappointing sweep at the hands of the New York Mets, but surely somebody did something right… yes?

Yeah, sure.

Can you guys tell it’s the dog days of August yet and the Rockies (and probably us, too) are just showing up and churnin’ it out every now and again?

But I digress… this week, we’re giving shout-outs to:

  • Chris Rusin and Jorge De La Rosa, who combined for 12 innings pitched and just three runs allowed in the Mets’ series. Sure, the Rockies lost both games (blechh), but both lefties gave the Rox a chance to win and more or less put them in a position where, had the offense lined up a couple of hits — or even one big swing — anything could’ve happened.
  • Ken Roberts and Gonzalez Germen, two interesting young relievers who are back up in the big leagues with the Rockies. That’s because Boone Logan has been placed on the disabled list, and Eddie Butler has been sent back down to AAA Albuquerque, where he’ll surely be for the next three weeks until he’s recalled in September. (More on that transaction here.)
  • Justin Morneau, who is now taking batting practice and ground balls on the field, in preparation for a return to the roster. It’s been a long road back for him this year since being injured in May.
  • Matt McBride, a player we discussed earlier this week, who is finally getting another shot in the big leagues as the Rockies try to figure out if he’s a keeper after putting up monster AAA numbers.
  • Twenty-nine Major League teams, for failing to nab Jose Reyes as he went through waivers — and now, the Rockies can trade him to anybody! (It’ll still be hard to trade him considering his contract, but at least one major hurdle has been crossed.
  • Yohan Flande, who entering Friday night’s start had a 0.96 WHIP and a .189 batting average against over his last 30 days (seven games, four starts). He allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings on Friday, so his numbers will rise a bit afterwards, but nevertheless he’s been a revelation for a club dealing with another awful pitching staff.
  • Speaking of the last 30 days, how about DJ LeMahieu? He’s slashing .344/.419/.473 in his last 30 days, with 32 hits, six doubles, two triples, and a homer in 26 games. He’s still hitting .319 on the year. So much for that second half regression, eh?
