Happy Fourth of July! Let’s head around the Colorado Rockies’ organization to highlight some good things happening for the club and its affiliates.

The Colorado Rockies are doing, well, pretty much what they do — especially on the road. But that doesn’t mean good stuff isn’t happening around the organization… right?

Right! Mashing in Grand Junction, promotions throughout the minor leagues, great news from two big prospects at AA New Britain, and some of the same ol’ same ol’ from Nolan and Tulo. Saturday Shout-Outs this week:

  • Nolan Arenado has enjoyed 25 hits in his last 19 games (entering play on Friday, that is), and had a 17-game hitting streak snapped earlier this week. He was also named NL Player of the Week this past week.
  • Troy Tulowitzki took on the mantle of longest hitting streak in baseball at 14 games after Arenado’s 17-gamer was snapped earlier this week. Tulo is hitting above .315 and has been rejuvenated after a slow start to the season.
  • Nick Hundley is approaching 500 career hits. He has 492 so far, and is enjoying a very solid season with Colorado.
  • Ryan Stephens, who began his minor league career in Grand Junction with the rookie level Rockies out of Middle Tennessee State, earned himself a quick promotion to Asheville after hitting four home runs in 37 at-bats over nine games on the Western Slope. The 22-year-old outfielder was hitting .412/.474/.912 with three doubles and a triple, too.
  • Correlle Prime, a power hitting first baseman in the Rockies’ organization at class A Advanced Modesto, is 13-for-40 (.325) over his last ten games, with a home run, seven runs scored, and nine RBIs.
  • Major League Baseball named New Britain Rock Cats’ infielder Trevor Story to the Futures Game over All Star Week in Cincinnati. Story has since been promoted to AAA Albuquerque.
  • New Britain catcher Tom Murphy was named to the USA Baseball roster for the Pan American Games this year.
  • Since being sent to Asheville from Modesto, right-handed pitcher Grahamm Wiest has gone 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in five starts, allowing just 25 hits and nine walks in 28.2 innings while striking out 28 hitters.
  • Boise Hawks right fielder Yonathan Daza leads the Northwest League in hitting, slashing .396/.442/.750 after his first 48 at-bats in the short-season Northwest League.

Oh, and by the way — have a happy Fourth of July! I’m actually in Las Vegas this weekend and I will be seeing the Albuquerque Isotopes playing the Las Vegas 51s, so that’s something!
