Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez Starting To Find Their Groove

Production from the Colorado Rockies top two paid players, Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez, were seemingly missing in the month of May. However, a hot start to the month of June for both players has provided hope for the Rockies faithful.

Gonzalez, 29, has dealt with his fair share of injuries in the past, but has been completely healthy so far into the 2015 campaign. The production from the former Silver Slugger had been missing, raising eyebrows not only within the organization, but within the league.

CarGo looked absolutely lost at the plate for the first two months of the season, seeing his average dip all the way down to .175 at one point. That’s definitely not what you want to see from a guy who you’re paying nearly $16,428,571 in 2015.

CarGo has started to show the potential of what was prior to his injury-prone 2014 season. Ever since Colorado’s three-game set with Philadelphia from May 29-31, Carlos has gone 15-for-38 (10 games), which is good for a .395 average. Not to mention, CarGo has collected five extra-base hits over that span, including two home runs in back-to-back games. After going 2-for-4 against St. Louis Monday night, CarGo has raised his average up to .246.

Tulowitzki on the other hand wasn’t slumping as bad as CarGo, but it was un-Tulo-like if you will. The 30-year-old shortstop is coming off an injury-prone 2014 season as well, but like CarGo, he has been healthy thus far.

Tulo started the season off red-hot, but towards the middle/end of May, it really took a toll on him. Tulo’s average dropped all the way down to .266 during the end of the Cincinnati Reds series, but heated up during the Philadelphia series as well, including a 4-for-4 performance on May 29, hitting two solo home runs off Cole Hamels.

During the month of June (8 games), Tulowitzki has been finding his stroke. Over those eight games, Tulo has gone 10-for-21 (.522 average), including two home runs and nine runs driven in. Not to mention, Monday night’s game against St. Louis, Tulowitzki went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI’s, raising his average back up to a solid .310.

When Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez are swinging a good bat at the same time, Colorado’s offense is nearly impossible to stop, especially with players such as Charlie Blackmon, DJ LeMahieu, Nolan Arenado and the list goes on. If Colorado’s rotation continues to pitch the way they have been, this team can make the month of June very interesting regarding the standings in the National League West.
