The Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins met Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of their three-game weekend series in Denver.

The Colorado Rockies wasted a pretty solid start by Kyle Kendrick, and the club lost 3-2 on an Adeiny Hechavarria home run in the tenth inning off struggling reliever Boone Logan.
The Marlins won not only the game, but the series with the late-inning heroics on Sunday, and sent the Rockies to a 25-30 record through their first 55 games this summer.
Disappointment aside, some game notes from today’s loss:
- After giving up two runs in the first inning, Kyle Kendrick allowed just one hit the rest of the way, until he was removed after the seventh inning.
- With the home run today, Carlos Gonzalez has now homered in consecutive games for the first time since April 30 and May 1, 2014. He’s on the way back!
- Troy Tulowitzki now has a seven-game hitting streak
- DJ LeMahieu has hit safely in 17 of his last 20 games.
- It was just Hechavarria’s ninth career home run and first since April 25. Entering the 10th, the Marlins shortstop was averaging only one long ball every 175 at-bats.
- The Rockies were 25-29 through their first 54 games – one-third of the season exactly. That’s on pace to go 75-87, which isn’t great.
- But, if you take away the Rockies’ 11-game losing streak this year, they are 25-19 in their other 44 games. Which team do we have – the 25-19 (.568) version, or the 0-11 version, or somewhere in between? Obviously, it’s in-between those two extremes, but the possibility holds that the Rockies may be better than the 70-73ish win team so many people assume.
Things only get more difficult as the Rockies will welcome the NL-leading St. Louis Cardinals to Coors Field next for a mid-week series, before traveling to Florida to face these Marlins for four games over next weekend.
