The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled away with a close 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon over the Colorado Rockies, due in large part to right-hander Mike Bolsinger who collected his second victory of the season.

Nothing seemed to be going Colorado’s way, especially in Charlie Blackmon‘s case. The center fielder struck out a total of three times in the same amount of at-bats, was ejected in the top half of the third inning after swinging at a ball outside. Blackmon was getting snubbed by home plate umpire Marty Foster, thus leading to Blackmon voicing his frustrations and leading to an ejection.

Shifting focus back to Dodgers’ right-hander Mike Bolsinger – he was pretty darn good. The 27-year-old native of McKinney, Texas improved to 2-0 on the season, lowering his ERA to 1.04. Bolsinger kept Rockies’ hitters off-balance all afternoon, pitching six strong inning, giving up just three hits while striking out six (three of which were via Charlie Blackmon).

Despite Colorado taking the 1-0 loss, how about the job Kyle Kendrick did in keeping it close. The veteran righty who has struggled quite a bit this season has pitched well over his last two starts which is good to see. Kendrick pitched seven solid innings, yielding just three hits, one run and one strikeout. Kendrick dealt with a bit of command issues, but the five walks he issued didn’t seem to play much of a factor in the game.

Yasmani Grandal drove in the lone run for the Dodgers in the bottom half of the fourth inning, singling to right to bring in Adrian Gonzalez. Los Angeles’ bullpen, consisting of Yimi Garcia, Chris Hatcher and Kenley Jansen didn’t give up a single hit while striking out five.

Colorado’s player of the game, besides Kyle Kendrick, would have to be shortstop Daniel Descalso who collected a pair of hits while filling in for Troy Tulowitzki who continues to battle a sore left quad. The Rockies scratched out just three hits in Sunday’s affair, the other coming from catcher Nick Hundley who is posting an impressive .312 batting average.

Boone Logan came in to spell Kendrick in the bottom half of the eighth inning, collecting both a walk and a strikeout.

The Colorado Rockies (13-21) resume action Monday night as they host the Philadelphia Phillies at Coors Field. First-pitch is scheduled for 8:40 PM EST, 6:40 PM MST as Jordan Lyles (2-3, 4.30 ERA) takes the hill for Colorado while the Phillies counter with Cole Hamels (3-3, 3.53 ERA).
