The Colorado Rockies and Coors Field will play host to an outdoor hockey game in 2016 between the highly respected programs at the University of Denver and Colorado College.

Coors Field is a beautiful, fun, and special venue. It’s truly still a marvel as it turns 20 years old, and even though I’ve recently marveled at Petco Park’s beauty, Coors Field is still one of the most beautiful ball parks in the league.

So it only make sense that the Rockies would use it for events and games year-round, even aside from baseball, and that’s exactly what they are doing.

On February 20th, 2016, the Rockies will host the Denver Pioneers and Colorado College Tigers in a collegiate hockey game.

More from Thomas Harding at MLB.com:

"One of collegiate hockey’s top rivalries will be played outside at Coors Field. The Rockies announced that the University of Denver and Colorado College will meet in the first hockey game at Coors — the “Battle on Blake” on Feb. 20, 2016.The event will take place a week before the National Hockey League’s Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche meet at Coors on Feb. 27, 2016, in an NHL Stadium Series game. It will also be the first time that DU and CC have met in an outdoor match."

Having seen the Stadium Series happen in Los Angeles last year, I can’t wait to see how it will be aligned and produced in Denver.

I’m no hockey fan, but next February should be a cool time to watch some outdoor games at Coors Field, and considering when the games take place, it’ll be the perfect time to get into the stadium and start dreaming about baseball again.

Go DU, CC sucks!
