All-Star Game voting has begun at MLB.com, and while it’s a fan vote, and thus, not always the cleanest, most pure process, some Colorado Rockies are certainly deserving of the nod.

More from Colorado Rockies News

If you haven’t already seen it this week, All-Star Game voting has begun on the ballots on MLB.com, and you can vote for your favorite players Colorado Rockies up to 35 times (a day, I think? Something ridiculous like that).

I know, All-Star game voting – really, anything done by the “fans” – isn’t the most pure way to pick the best players at each position, but I suppose you’ve got to let the “fans” have their popularity contest. I can’t imagine DJ LeMahieu is going to be an All-Star this summer, though (assuming he stays hot). Popularity and all.

So today we want to know – who are your Rockies All-Stars? Here are my three choices, ranked from most deserving to least:

DJ LeMahieu. He finished April second in the big leagues in hitting (behind another second base man!). He’s hit anywhere and everywhere in the lineup. He has been the only Rockie to be consistent throughout the month, as we see if he can continue his hot streak into May, and then June. His April batting average was the highest for a Rockies second baseman in the team’s history.

Corey Dickerson. He’s cooled off a little bit the last week or two, but five home runs and 15 RBIs in April will always raise eyebrows. If not as an All-Star Game participant, Dickerson would be fun to watch in the home run derby, thanks to how hard he swings every time he’s at the plate.

Nolan Arenado. He’s the best defensive third baseman in all of baseball, and oh yeah, he hit pretty well in April, too. His best sign: just six strikeouts in 77 plate appearances. That’s a hitter who’s not being fooled by big league pitching in an era where everybody strikes out a ton.

Honorable Mention: Nick Hundley. I don’t think there’s any way Nick Hundley makes the All-Star team, unfortunately (popularity contest, remember?), but he had a really good under-the-radar April at the plate, and in dealing as best as a catcher can with Rockies pitching. Maybe his candidacy will get a boost if he maintains his average above .300 well into June.

The pitchers: Tyler Matzek and Eddie Butler aren’t throwing the ball horribly, and Jordan Lyles looked amazing until his last start (which could’ve just been an aberration, anyways), but I don’t think any Rockies starter is deserving of an All-Star nod, obviously. On the relief end, Adam Ottavino would’ve been a natural choice, but, well, this happened.

So how about that? Several legitimately deserving Rockies All-Stars, and no mention of Carlos Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki, and Justin Morneau.
