Nolan Arenado reaches over the railing for a great catch (Video)
By Hayden Kane
Nolan Arenado has made a name for himself among baseball fans both inside and outside Colorado for the last two seasons with his ability to make outstanding plays on defense.

In the meantime, Arenado has seen the start of his transition to his time as the franchise player for the Rockies. Yes, Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez technically aren’t going anywhere yet, but 2014 has made it clear that this franchise cannot reasonably proceed with the same plan centered around those two in the seasons to come.
With them out of for the year again, Todd Helton retired, and Arenado coming alive with the bat as well, the 23-year-old has been thrust into the role of franchise player in waiting.
As an otherwise meaningless season winds down, I find myself more and more dialed into each moment and each play made by Arenado. It at least caught my attention, then, when he made such a fine defensive play on Wednesday night to bail out his pitcher Franklin Morales.
Normally we associate Arenado’s great defense with diving or barehanded stops and the rocket throws that follow to record the out. In this case it was a different kind of great play as Arenado found the railing in front of the San Francisco dugout and calmly made the catch.
Besides enjoying the play itself, I cannot help but smile at the fact that Arenado did not go crashing into the wall or take an unnecessary risk to make this catch. As fun as those plays can be from your star players, I would much rather see this guy healthy for the rest of the season and into 2015.
