Wilin Rosario’s hand is not broken; Rockies hope he can return soon

The Colorado Rockies have a number of hitters up and down their lineup who are off to fast starts. The lineup has been so good, in fact, that it is hard to find somebody who is not producing.

Catcher Wilin Rosario is one such player. Batting .244/.276/.415 so far this season with three home runs, Rosario has been out of the lineup the last number of games with a sore left hand. Thankfully for the Rockies, an MRI this week showed no breaks or serious damage. From Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post:

"An MRI showed no broken bones or structural damage to his hand or wrist. He remains day to day and there are no plans, for now at least, to put him on the disabled list.”"

Rosario was out again on Tuesday night, so it is likely a matter of having the swelling down enough to re-insert him in the lineup. If the injury lingered long enough to force Rosario to the DL, Jordan Pacheco would take over the primary gig behind the plate and Michael McHenry would likely make his first appearance with the big club in 2014 as the back up.

Hopefully this is as minor as expected and that course of action won’t be necessary. With no days off to speak of, we will just have to hope to see the Bull back in the lineup Wednesday or Thursday night.
