Eddie Butler in the rotation before May 1st

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

Even before Jhoulys Chacin returns to the rotation we should see Eddie Butler there. As a Rockies fan, it has been easy to daydream in recent seasons of the time when the Rockies will have the young pitcher who breaks out and takes the league by storm…the Michael Wacha, the Jose Fernandez, the Matt Harvey.

It wouldn’t be fair to heap those expectations on Butler, but he and Jonathan Gray are the first guys the Rockies have ever had who might be the league’s breakout pitching star (s). The team just needs to make the bold decision to give them a chance a little bit ahead of schedule. It is not unprecedented, as teams across baseball have done the same over the last number of years. The Rockies need to give Butler that chance soon.

Sorry, Franklin.
