Let’s say that you are fortunate enough to spend your Thanksgiving day with fellow Colorado Rockies fans. Instead of politics, the state of your beloved baseball team is the hot hot topic at the dinner table each year. It is the topic that gets people hot under the collar, motivates them to get another drink or excuse themselves from the table to “start the dishes,” incites arguments and, in certain cases, starts the shouting match that reminds you that you are among family and friends.

If that is the case for you, here are some one-line conversation starters.

The thing everybody agrees on:

“We got to watch Todd Helton for the Colorado Rockies for 17 years. That’s pretty great.”

The boring topic that will put everyone to sleep in their post-food coma state:

“I am really looking forward to seeing what Adam Ottavino can do with a bigger role in the bullpen this season.”

The controversial opinion:

“I have no doubt about the Rockies committing to Troy Tulowitzki, injuries and all.”

The fence-mender:

Wilton Lopez is the worst, am I right?”

The one that ruins relationships:

“I have a lot of faith in the Rockies front office, especially the owners. Dick Monfort for life!”

Happy Thanksgiving Rockies fans.
