NL West News: Hunter Pence Gets Paid

While he hasn’t had the opportunity this season to yell, act like a crazy person, and otherwise inspire the San Francisco Giants to glory, Hunter Pence still apparently showed himself to be valuable enough to be in the team’s plans long term.

Also from Baggarly, this tweet:

Besides being of note because it occurred in the Rockies’ division, this is relevant because Pence could have been a candidate for the dire need the team has for another bat in the outfield, especially a right-handed bat. Honestly, I had no idea Pence would be in line for that kind of cheddar (and with a no-trade clause, to boot). His 2013 season has been very good: .282/.339/.481 with 26 home runs, 94 RBI, and a career high 22 stolen bases. That’s great production, and it’s not surprising that he earned a payday. Having said that…

…ask me if I’m upset that the Rockies didn’t have the opportunity to pay Pence $90 million. Go ahead, ask me.

I’m not upset about it. Thanks for asking.
