Rockies at Giants. 2:05 P.M. MST

Much has been made in recent days about the Rockies needing to “exorcise some demons” when it comes to playing against the San Francisco Giants. That started with snapping a losing streak that extended to last season. It continued with winning a series against them last week in Colorado. Now they must find a way to win a series in San Francisco.

A golden opportunity slipped away when Angel Pagan crossed the plate with his walk-off inside the park home run on Saturday. If the Rockies can find a way to win on Sunday with their 5th starter against the Giants’ ace and coming off the heels of that loss, it might very well be their best victory of the season to date.

Here is manager Walt Weiss‘s lineup:

Dexter Fowler CF
Nolan Arenado 3B
Carlos Gonzalez LF
Troy Tulowitzki SS
Michael Cuddyer RF
Todd Helton 1B
Wilin Rosario C
DJ LeMahieu 2B
Jon Garland P

It appears that the days of the dreaded “Sunday JV lineup” are well behind us. LeMahieu, after an 0-5 day in the #2 spot yesterday, returns to the #8 spot as he tries to rebound quickly and capitalize on his chance to seize the second base job.

Bruce Bochy counters with the following lineup:

Gregor Blanco CF
Marco Scutaro 2B
Pablo Sandoval 3B
Buster Posey C
Hunter Pence RF
Brandon Belt 1B
Andres Torres LF
Brandon Crawford SS
Matt Cain P

Cain has a 5+ ERA and has struggled all season. For their part the Rockies touched him up for 6 ER when they saw him in Denver last week. Having said that, we all know he is one good day away from getting back on track and looking like the ace we all know he is. Each time he starts might be the time when things click. The Rockies have to hope that today is not that day.
