At long last the Reid “don’t say I can’t play shortstop” Brignac era has come to its end. Despite a solo home run last night, Brignac was designated for assignment today and DJ LeMahieu was finally called up to the Rockies.

LeMahieu was batting a cool .364/.405/.510 in Colorado Springs. He is also better defensively than Brignac. Other than that, it made complete sense to keep LeMahieu in the minor leagues.

The Rockies enter this four game series against the San Francisco Giants with an offense that has been sputtering, save for two random games on their previous road trip. The Giants have their pitching lined up; the Rox will see Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner, Tim Lincecum, and Barry Zito. All have enjoyed nice success against the Rockies in the past. To shake things up and get the bats going, Walt Weiss needs to get LeMahieu and Charlie Blackmon more involved and Eric Young and Jonathan Herrera much, much less involved.
