Yankees At Rockies, May 7th: Game Time, Lineups, And Preview

New York Yankees at Colorado Rockies. 6:40 P.M. MST

There’s something distinctly odd about tonight’s match-up with the Yankees. Typically the excitement of interleague match-ups with teams like the Red Sox and Yankees is linked to the fact that you see players you would not otherwise. I saw Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz play against the Rockies and I thought that was pretty cool (that was all before the traumatic 2007 World Series). Usually with the Yankees it is Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and other players you do not see play against the Rockies very often. If nothing else, they are not supposed to be familiar.

Tonight there will be a bunch of familiar faces on the Yankees. Jayson Nix and Chris Nelson will man the left side of the infield for the Yankees; surely their fans hope this is all a bad dream and they will wake up soon. On the mound the Rockies will face Hiroki Kuroda, of whom they saw plenty in his days on the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Colorado proceeds tonight sans Troy Tulowitzki once again. He is trying to take proactive days off rather than push it and hurt himself more seriously. I am trying to convince myself that’s a good thing. Here is the rest of the Rockies lineup:

Dexter Fowler CF
Josh Rutledge 2B
Carlos Gonzalez LF
Michael Cuddyer RF
Todd Helton 1B
Nolan Arenado 3B
Yorvit Torrealba C
Jonathan Herrera SS
Jorge De La Rosa P

Thank goodness the Rockies kept Reid Brignac on the roster because of his ability to play shortstop. Keeping him and Herrera makes much more sense than calling up Tyler Colvin, Charlie Blackmon, and DJ LeMahieu. I mean, look at that lineup.

TORREALBA! HERRERA! FEAR THE ROCKIES BENCH YANKEES. FEAR THEM.

De La Rosa will try to rebound from a disastrous outing his last time out against the Los Angeles Dodgers. I would say that he faces a depleted Yankees lineup, but they have found a way to get it done so far. And there’s still that Cano guy…

Ichiro Suzuki CF
Jayson Nix SS
Robinson Cano 2B
Vernon Wells LF
Ben Francisco RF
Lyle Overbay 1B
Chris Nelson 3B
Chris Stewart C
Hiroki Kuroda P

Trying so hard not to make fun of Wells or Overbay because I just know it will come back to bite me. But seriously, how is this team 18-12?

With all of the anniversary celebrations, shouldn’t the Rockies do something for Yankees manager Joe Girardi? Are they already and I missed it? If they are, please let me know. If not, they should probably scrap something together for the first ever Colorado Rockies catcher.
