With wicked weather on the east coast throwing a wrench in the plans of a number of major sporting events, including college football and tennis’s U.S. Open, the Rockies and Phillies found themselves as one of the groups impacted. Saturday night’s game was postponed due to rain, meaning the two teams will be forced to play a doubleheader on Sunday.

The probable starters for Saturday night’s game, Tyler Chatwood and Cole Hamels, will start game one of the doubleheader. Drew Pomeranz and Tyler Cloyd will start the second game.

I just have one thought: imagine how…ahem…creative Jim Tracy will be able to get tomorrow. Two lineups to set, two paired pitching piggyback plan things to make…he must be like a kid on Christmas right now. The recent changes in the organization shifted Tracy’s primary responsibility to “in-game managing.” You can bet he will do a whole lot of that tomorrow, for better or worse.

If I was Josh Rutledge, I would be nervous that my name was going to appear on the lineup card tomorrow as the starting shortstop and starting second baseman…for the same game. If I was Adam Ottavino I would be nervous about getting the call to pitch 3-4 innings in both games.

And if I was the umpires, I would be sure to have sharp pencils and fresh erasers for all the double switching that’s going to be happening.
