Rockies Lineup – July 28, 2012: Field Joins the Team

facebooktwitterreddit

As you most likely have heard, the Rockies traded Marco Scutaro to the Giants last night for minor leaguer Charlie Culberson. Culberson remains in the minors and will not yet wear a Rockies uniform, so someone had to be called up to take Scutaro’s roster spot. That person is Tommy Field, the middle infielder who saw some playing time last September and made good use of it. Now that we have no everyday second baseman, Field is as likely to turn up there as anyone, and can also play shortstop when necessary. DJ LeMahieu plays second tonight.

Also: hurrah! Josh Rutledge has finally been rescued from the bottom of the order! I guess Jim Tracy finally saw what you and I have been seeing all this time and thought, you know, that guy is pretty good at getting on base. Maybe I can use him earlier in the lineup! Yeah. Go Josh Rutledge.

The Reds’ lineup is literally exactly the same as it was last night, with the exception of the 9-hole being filled by starting pitcher Johnny Cueto. Cueto has been straight-up filthy so far this season, and he will be a formidable opponent. Since Bronson Arroyo was able to shut the Rockies out yesterday, I can only imagine what Cueto will do today.
