After besting Stephen Strasburg last night the Rockies are set to face Gio Gonzalez. Gonzalez has thrived since joining the Nationals in the off season and is 9-3 with a 2.55 ERA and 101 strikeouts over 84 2/3 innings this season. After starting the season 7-1, he lost gone 2-2, but still hasn’t giving up over 3 runs in a game this season since his first start of the season. Spending his first four seasons with Oakland, tonight will be the first time Gonzalez will face Colorado. Christian Friedrich will get his fourth home start and looks to improve on his 1-2 record and 12.60 ERA while averaging 5 innings per home start.

Marco Scutaro sits out tonight’s game after being hit in the head with a pitch last night, allowing Chris Nelson back into the starting line-up. Nelson had been slowed with an ankle injury but got a hit in his only at bat last night, driving in a run and eventually coming around to score. Michael Cuddyer is the only player in the line-up to have face Gonzalez and is 4-10 with a home run in his career.
