Rockies Line-up, May 9 2012: Christian Friedrich Debuts
While trying to avoid a sixth straight loss and second straight series sweep, the struggling Colorado Rockies will turn to a 24 year old making his MLB debut. Christian Friedrich seems to have put two shaky seasons in Double-A Tulsa behind him and earned a major league start by going 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in Triple-A Colorado Springs, striking out 27 batters while only walking 4 in 30 innings. Friedrich will make his debut in a notoriously pitcher friendly park against the Padres team that is last in the National League with a .220 average. Rockies batters will have to improve to give Friedrich a chance to win his debut, Colorado has only scored three runs combined while dropping the first two games of this series. Anthony Bass starts for San Diego, making his second start of 2012 against the Rockies, he was the losing pitcher in 5-3 Colorado victory in April, giving up 3 runs over 5 innings and striking out 7 Rockies hitters. Bass comes into the game with a 1-3 record and is coming of a no decision against the Marlins in which he gave up 6 runs over 6 innings.
In their first meeting of 2012 Dexter Fowler went 1-3 with two strike outs and a home run against Bass, Wilin Rosario drove in a run with a double. Troy Tulowitzki gets a day off after straining his groin beating out an infield single last night. Jason Giambi starts for Todd Helton in a day game after a night game.
