Rockies Line-up, May 2 2012

The Rockies will attempt to win a home series against the Dodgers this afternoon, the only thing standing in their way is reigning N.L. Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw is 2-0 on the season and will be going for his 11 straight win, dating back to last August, which would be the longest streak by a Dodger since Orel Hershiser in 1985. This will be Kershaw’s sixth start of the season, he comes in with a 1.78 ERA and with his team winning all five of his previous starts.  Coors Field has not been kind to Kershaw in the past, he is 3-3 with a 5.88 ERA over 9 career starts. The Rockies will counter with 23 year old left-hander Drew Pomeranz. Pomeranz left his previous start against the Mets with tightness in his forearm after throwing 67 pitches over 4 innings with the score tied at two, in a game the Rockies would go on to win 18-9. Pomeranz has not pitched past the 5th inning so far in this season, and will have to improve on that to prevent the already overworked bull-pen from disintegrating completely.

Marco Scutaro gets a day of rest for the Rockies, with Jonathan Herrera starting at second base and leading off. Dexter Fowler returns to the line-up and to the second spot in the order, Fowler has had the most success against Kershaw with a .423 (11-26) over his career. Carlos Gonzalez has been the Rockies hottest hitter with a .474 (9-19) average, 3 home runs and 11 RBI over his last 5 games.
