Rockies Line-up, April 27 2012

It’s not very often that a pitcher with six career starts comes in with more experience than his opposite starter, but that will be case tonight when Drew Pomeranz makes his 7th career start against Chris Schwinden, making his 2012 debut and the 5th start of his MLB career. Schwinden was called up to fill the spot in the rotation opened up by Mike Pelfrey, who reportedly needs Tommy John surgery and will be out for the remainder of 2012. The 25 year old made 4 starts for the Mets in September of 2011, with New York losing all four games, and finished with a 0-2 record and a 4.71 ERA with 17 strikeouts and 6 walks over 21 innings. Pomeranz makes his third start of 2012 for the Rockies, and is coming off a start against the Brewers in which he was perfect through four innings, but walked three and gave up two runs in the fifth, exiting with a no decision.

Jim Tracy is shaking up the line-up a little bit tonight, Jonny Herrera starts in place of Chris Nelson at 3rd base and is batting second, while Dexter Fowler slides down to the 8th spot in the order. This will be Fowler’s 13th career start in the 8-hole where he is batting .293 with a .383 OBP in his career. The veteran Ramon Hernandez will catch Pomeranz, while the rest of the line-up is pretty standard.
