It’s the middle of June, and as the temperature rises, so does the rumors about trades.
Not much now, but the Rockies haven’t always been busy at the deadline. GM Dan O’Dowd makes just one or two moves usually, but they’re typically for impact players (See Rafael Betancourt in 2009).
First up, Ryan Spilborghs. It’s no secret the Phillies have been interested in Spilborghs for years, but nothing’s happened. They’re still interested, but Spilly would remain a bench player if traded.
Dexter Fowler is most likely next on the Rockies chopping block. Fowler was told by team brass today that he’ll be sent down to Triple-A Colorado Springs when he returns from his trip to the Disabled List. His slash line so far this year is a paltry .238/.340/.348 with 66 strikeouts. He’ll be working on his swing in Colorado Springs, and working on reducing his number of strikeouts. If Fowler doesn’t pan out by the deadline, he could be moved to make room for a Sky Sox impact player or a trade for outside help.
